Agama apa yang paling baik

Seorang ahli dari kelompok The Theology Of Freedom dari Brazil bernama Leonardo Boff bertanya kepada Dalai Lama pemimpin umat Buddha dari Tibet : 

"Yang Mulia, apakah agama terbaik?"

Leonardo Boff menduga bahwa Dalai Lama akan menjawab :
Agama Buddha dari Tibet atau agama Oriental yg lebih tua dari agama Kristen. 

Ternyata sambil tersenyum, Dalai Lama menjawab :

"Agama terbaik adalah agama yg lebih mendekatkanmu  pada TUHAN, yaitu agama yg membuatmu menjadi orang yg lebih baik".

Sambil menutupi rasa malu karena punya dugaan kurang baik tentang Dalai Lama,
Leonardo Boff bertanya lagi :

"Apakah tanda agama yg membuat kita menjadi lebih baik?"

Jawaban Dalai Lama :

Agama apapun yg bisa membuatmu

_ Lebih welas asih
_ Lebih berpikiran sehat
_ Lebih objektif & adil
_ Lebih menyayangi
_ Lebih manusiawi
_ Lebih mempunyai rasa tanggung
   jawab
_ Lebih ber-etika.

Agama yg memiliki kualitas seperti itu adalah agama terbaik".

Leonardo Boff terdiam dan ter-kagum² atas jawaban Dalai Lama yg bijaksana & tidak terbantahkan lagi.

Selanjutnya, Dalai Lama berkata :

Tidak penting bagiku apa agamamu kawan ... tidak peduli kamu beragama atau tidak. Yg betul² penting bagiku adalah perilakumu di depan kawan² mu, di depan keluarga, lingkungan kerja & dunia."

Dalai Lama berkata lagi :

Jagalah pikiranmu, karena akan menjadi perkataanmu.

Jagalah perkataanmu, karena akan menjadi perbuatanmu.

Jagalah perbuatanmu, karena akan menjadi kebiasaanmu.

Jagalah kebiasaanmu, karena akan membentuk karaktermu.

Jagalah karaktermu, karena akan membentuk nasibmu.

Jadi sebenarnya, nasibmu berawal dari pikiranmu.
